Attendance

At Ursuline we recognise the importance of regular attendance and punctuality by the children. We work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure that each child attends regularly.

To encourage good attendance children who achieve 100% attendance in a term or for the whole year are presented with gold attendance certificates and placed into a draw to win a voucher.  Children who achieve 99%-98% receive a silver attendance certificate and 97%-96% receive a bronze certificate. Each week the class/es with the highest attendance receive toast at breaktime. The attendance of each class is displayed in the hall so children can see if their weekly attendance as a class has improved from the previous week. The class with the highest attendace across the term is awared with a class celebration such as  popcorn and a movie after school.

The law gives no entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during the term time.  Any application for leave must only be granted in exceptional circumstances and the headteacher must be satisfied that the circumstances are exceptional and warrant the granting of leave.

Parents can be fined by the local authority for taking their child on holiday during term time without the consent of the school. It is important that parents understand that the initial fixed penalty notice of £60 is issued to each parent for each child.  A two-parent family with two children would be fined £240. For further information view our attendance policy on our School Policies page.
